Why we can charge nothing
Not generosity — architecture. Fragnet has no payment rail. There is no card processing, no escrow account and no float, so there are no processing fees to pass on and no balance to take a percentage of. Entry fees go from the player to the organizer without passing through us at any point.
Platforms that do hold the money have real costs we do not: payment processing, chargebacks, fraud review, payout rails in dozens of countries, and the compliance work that comes with all of it. A percentage is a reasonable way to fund that. We are not being cheaper at the same job; we are doing a smaller job.
How other platforms charge
Three models, none of them dishonest. Which one suits you depends on what you need.
- 1.Free software, funded elsewhere — usually by publishers, brands or advertising. You pay nothing and the platform’s incentives point at whoever does.
- 2.A percentage of entry fees or prize money. You pay when money moves, and in exchange the platform handles collection, holding and payout — which is genuinely valuable if you do not want to chase forty people for an entry fee.
- 3.Paid tiers for white-label branding, API access, seat counts or advanced features. Predictable, and usually aimed at organisations rather than individuals.
On competitor pricingWe do not reproduce anyone else’s prices here, because pricing pages change and a stale number is worse than no number. The comparison pages link each platform’s own pricing page with the date we last checked it.
What “free” costs you here
This is the section most pricing pages leave out. Free is not the same as complete, and the gaps are structural rather than temporary.
- No brackets. Fragnet will not draw, seed or advance one. You run the bracket in another tool and link it from your listing.
- No results entry and no standings. Scores live wherever you decide to put them — usually a public sheet linked from the listing.
- No leaderboards and no skill progression across events.
- No escrow. If an organizer does not pay out, we can remove their listing and their account, and that is the entire extent of it. Nobody is holding funds we can return to you, because nobody ever was.
- No identity verification, so “this organizer is real” is a judgment you make from their track record and reviews, not a badge we issue.
If escrow is what you actually needUse a platform that holds prize money. That is a legitimate requirement, it is a real service, and a percentage is a fair price for it. We would rather tell you that than have you find out after an organizer disappears.
Will it stay free?
Listing and joining will. We have no plans to charge organizers to publish or players to enter, and if that ever changes it will be announced rather than discovered.
What might eventually pay for this is optional visibility for organizers, or tooling that goes beyond what a single organizer needs. What will never pay for it is a cut of your entry fees or your prize pool — not as a policy we could quietly reverse, but because there is no mechanism in the product that could take one.

- Is Fragnet really free?
- Yes. Listing is free, joining is free, and we take 0% of entry fees and 0% of prize money. There is no paid tier today.
- Does Fragnet collect entry fees or pay out prizes?
- No. Fragnet lists events — we don’t vet organizers or players, and we never collect or hold entry fees or prize money. Anything you pay is arranged directly with the organizer, at your own risk.
- Then why are fees and prizes shown on the listing?
- Because they are the organizer’s own numbers and you should be able to filter and compare on them before committing an evening. They are display figures, not a transaction.
- Why is the prize shown in two currencies?
- We convert into yours so you can compare events across 41 currencies. You owe the organizer the amount in theirs — which is why the original is always on screen next to the conversion.
- The organizer did not pay out. Can Fragnet recover my money?
- No, because we never had it. You can leave a review and report the organizer, and we can remove the listing and the account. Factor that in before you pay anyone.
- Is there a fee to use the QR passes or the check-in scanner?
- No. Every feature listed on this page is included at no cost, with no usage limit.
